There is no animal control in this GA county and the citizens are desperate for some relief and somewhere to turn. For now, we are offering assistance with food donations and trying to find rescue groups to take in some of these unwanted animals. For more information, please contact:

I called and spoke with the woman who told me that her grandkids had found some puppies whose mother had been hit by a car and killed. She said the puppies were crying and hungry, but she didn't know what to feed them. I asked her how old they were. She said she didn't know, but thought they should be able to eat. She didn't have dog food, so she said she would offer them some hot dogs. She told me that they were eating the hot dogs, so, since this was late at night, I told her I would come by in the morning to help. Another HS volunteer and I called the phone number the next morning, but it had been disconnected. So we did a reverse search online and got the address. We drove out to a small trailer park in Concord and found the house. My friend went and knocked on the door, but noone was home. As she came back to the car, she heard whimpering at the back door and looked into a large plastic tub...then I saw her start crying. I jumped out and went to look in the tub. There, covered in cooking oil and large pieced of raw meat, were the puppies. Only 2 of them were moving. I reached into the tub and pulled them out. I held them close and did my best to stimulate them and dry them as we rushed to the vet in Griffin. One puppy died on the drive. These puppies could NOT have been eating hot dogs...they were approximately a week old at the most..eyes still closed.
I took the surviving puppy home and cared for him round the clock, bottle feeding him, keeping him warm and stimulating him to evacuate his bowels. He lived for 3 days, before dying. He was just too weak to survive. Below is a photo of the baby we dubbed "Ghetto Fabulous". I don't know why he and his siblings were thrown out with the trash like they were. I will never understand how people can be so ignorant and so callous about something so needy. How could they put those puppies out there and just go back inside and go to bed? It is inhumane.
Pike county DESPERATELY needs to address its' citizens and its' animals. The animals cannot help their predicament. They don't ask to be homeless, hungry, sick, cold, reproducing year after year..more unwanted puppies/kittens. It is NOT the animals' fault, and YET they pay for our ignorance and our indifference. It is is not only inhumane, but uncivilized. Pike county needs to bring its' citizens out of the Dark Ages of animal stewardship!

Baby Ghetto:

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_9RBnACHZcOk/R07JjOtRcWI/AAAAAAAAABk/Ne4q-mvy6QM/s320/HPIM0793.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5138265831956902242" />

Needy Family Saved!

I take my kids to school every morning in Zebulon. I pass by several houses who always have mangey, sick dogs and usually lots of puppies in their yard. The litter I posted previously came from one of these houses. Here is another story of a mama dog desperately trying to care for her 3 babies in a stranger's yard.
Sally was a shy Labrador mix suffering from sarcoptic mange. She spent her days sitting in the yard, scratching, scratching, scratching... Then she became pregnant and delivered several puppies. I first saw her leading 6 or 7 of them across the road. Every day the number of puppies became less and less as they succumbed to traffic. I finally stopped and asked the woman who lived at the house if I could help. She begged me to take the dogs. She told me that people were constantly dropping dogs off there. I took pics of Sally and her babies and rushed home to post their pictures to the internet dog rescue world. Within hours, I had an offer from a group in the Northeast who would take them. I went and picked the family up and took them to the vet where they were diagnosed and started on treatment. I kept them safe at my home until they found a ride to their rescue where they were healed in mind and body and found wonderful forever homes.
Here are BEFORE and AFTER pics of this LUCKY family:

<img style="float:left; The older lady who lives there contacted us for the second time to see if we could take the puppies from her. People are constantly dumping puppies at her house. There is also a feral female dog who lives in the area that is always producing puppies. Like most of the dogs that roam free in the town of Zebulon, the county seat, these puppies have sarcoptic mange. It is also called scabies. It is transmittable to humans and other dogs. Children who play with these puppes can contract scabies. If there was a shelter in Pike county, there would be somewhere for these dogs to go so they could get treatment and find homes. It would also protect people from getting diseases from them.
For now, Pike County Animal Advocates will be taking in as many as we can, getting them treated, and transporting them to rescue groups in the northern US where they will be spayed/neutered and found new homes.
These puppies are currently being treated for sarcoptic mange and will be going to rescue in a couple of weeks. One more litter saved from starvation, suffering from mange and most likely being killed by a car as they wander through town.

Hoarder Dogs Need Rescue/Adoption ASAP!

This is a plea for help for dogs located in Pike county, GA.
These dogs currently live on chains that vary in length from about 10 feet down to 2 feet for some dogs. Others are kept in chicken coop-type pens. Some are chained underneath the mobile home on the property. The owner claims to take in dogs that noone else wants. But she has been unsuccessful finding new homes for any of the dogs and has now asked us to help. We will be providing food for the dogs now that is being graciously donated by the Griffin Spalding Humane Society, but are desperate to get them out of there and hopefully on the road to new lives!
Here is a list of the dogs with photos and short descriptions:

PRINCESS-White female Bulldog/Husky mix, about 1 year old.
